 Reba McEntire was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on March 28, 1955. Jacqueline (née Smith; born November 6, 1926) was her mother, a teacher who aspired to become a country singer. She gave her kids singing lessons. Reba picked up the guitar and began songwriting. A singing trio called the “Singing McEntire’s” was founded by Reba, her brother Pake, and her younger sister Susie. The older sister, Alice, stayed away. The ensemble gained notoriety with “The Ballad of John McEntire” and performed at rodeos. Their father, Clark Vincent McEntire, won the World Championship Steer Ropers on November 30, 1927, and passed away on October 23, 2014. (1957, 1958, and 1961).
