The Chinese-language Taiwanese series “Copycat Killer” on Netflix is directed by Chang Jung-chi and Henri Chang. It is about a prosecutor named Kuo Hsiao-chi, who tries to find the serial killer who kidnaps and kills several young girls in the city of Songyan in the 1990s. Kuo has to deal with his own traumas and fails to catch the serial killer, who talks to the police and the families of his victims through a news channel called TNB. Even though the main suspect in the case is found, the prosecutor’s thorough investigation shows that the main suspect is actually just a helper. The crime series comes to an end when Kuo tries to catch the serial killer. Here’s a more in-depth look at the same thing, if you’re interested! SPOILERS AHEAD.
Copycat Killer Recap
At the beginning of “Copycat Killer,” a serial killer named “Noh” sends a tape to a well-known news station called “TNB” in which he threatens to kill a prosecutor named “Kuo Hsiao-chi.” A severed hand was found in a gift box at a park a few days before the sellotape was shown on TV. Kuo sees that the thumb is out of place, just like the thumb of a girl who was killed. The prosecutor finds out that the killer used thumb cuffs, which leads him to Tian Cun-yi, who killed the first victim. Kuo goes to his prison and puts thumbcuffs on him, but the criminal struggles to get them off. The prosecutor comes to the conclusion that Cun-yi did not kill the girl, and that whoever did is a serial killer.
Next, Cin Yi-jyun is taken by the serial killer, who makes her grandfather put up flyers to find his granddaughter. Lu Yen-jhen of TNB writes a story about what happened to Yi-jyun to help Yi-grandfather. jyun’s The serial killer calls the old man and tells him that if he wants to see his granddaughter alive, he needs to act like a dog in public. Even though he does what the killer tells him to do, the killer still kills the girl and sends him a videotape of himself doing it. After seeing the same thing, Yi-grandfather jyun’s shows up in TNB and asks the serial killer to bring back his dead granddaughter’s body, which the police eventually find.
After the bodies of Cun-victim yi’s and Yi-jyun were found, Kuo saw lipstick marks on both of their faces that were similar. This leads him to Hu Jian-ho, the brother of his ex-girlfriend Hu Yun-huei and a TNB cameraman. Jian-ho beat up a girl when he was fifteen, and the girl had a lipstick mark on her face just like Jian- ho’s. Kuo tries to meet the girl, but finds out that she killed herself. She had written Jia-name wun’s under her bed before she killed herself. The police learn that Jia-wun and Jian-ho went to school together and were friends. It turns out that Jia-wun is taking care of two more missing girls, Zih-cing and Yu-tong.
Kuo and the police officers find a dead body in Jia-house wun’s and go looking for him. Jian-ho sees his friend and tells him that if he has anything to do with the murders and kidnappings, he should turn himself in to the police. Jia-wun forces Jian-ho into his car and drives away, but then gets into an accident. Jia-wun and Jian-ho die in the car crash, but Yu-tong is still alive when police find him in the boot of the crashed car. People and police officers think that the serial killers are dead and gone forever.
Yi-grandfather, jyun’s on the other hand, isn’t sure. He meets Kuo and tells him that the serial killer who talked to him sounded older, more mature, and more calm than Jia-wun. Also, Kuo’s uncle tells him that TNB anchor Chen He-ping asked him about the prosecutor and talked to him about a book about the serial killer and his murders. Kuo thinks about how the killer always uses TNB to talk to the public and how He-ping described Cun-victim yi’s as the first victim of the serial killer in his book, even though the similarities between the dislocated thumbs didn’t get publicised.
Copycat Killer Ending: Why Does He-ping Kill?
Kuo’s suspicions that He-ping was the serial killer turned out to be right in the end. As a child, he showed his murderous side, especially when he burned his pet dog alive. After becoming a reporter for TNB, he was given a story to write about the rise of pornography in the area. As part of the story, he went to a sadomasochist club called Sodom, where he saw people who loved hurting other people. During his time there, he let out the sadist in him by torturing several of the women who worked there. He felt superior and strong when he hurt someone.
That’s how He-ping met Jia-wun, who went to Sodom all the time at the time. They took a girl from where the DJ worked at KINK. The reporter locked her up and beat her so he could see how much power he had over the kidnapped girl. They sent Cun-yi to take pictures of the girl, and when he started to worry that she might die, He-ping killed her. The reporter strangled her to death so he could see how helpless and scared Cun-yi was, which made him stronger. He started to like how much power he had over the photographer, especially after he asked the photographer to admit to killing his father if he wanted his father to live.
He-ping keeps killing because it makes him feel strong and powerful. He thinks he is better than everyone else because he wants to be in charge. Taunting his victims or their families makes him feel like he is God even more than killing them. So that’s why he has Jia-wun drive his possible victims to their families. He-ping gets pleasure from seeing the same family members suffer because they can’t do anything, while he decides what will happen to their loved ones. Making Shang-yong say sorry for being a bad father and Yi-grandfather jyun’s act like a dog are both ways of showing how helpless they are. He-ping sits with them in the TV studio and sees that they can’t have children.
He-ping is even better now that he is a well-known TV personality. Even though he has killed many people, he ends up in charge of the story by becoming a famous TV show host. By coming up with theories and acting like he cares about his victim’s family, he thinks everyone else is a fool. He thinks that the people around him are so weak that they have to beg him for help even after he has hurt them. He-ping makes things worse for them by killing their loved ones, which satisfies his need to see others in pain.
How Does He-ping Get Arrested?
When He-ping kills Yun-huei, Kuo, the reporter’s ex-boyfriend, beats him up and shoots at him. He-ping becomes a “victim,” gaining sympathy from all spheres of society while the prosecutor ends up in prison. Since the only legal way to lock up the reporter is to get him to say what he did, Kuo plays a trick on him. First and foremost, He-ping is a narcissist. He kills for the world to acknowledge him or his murderous alter ego as a superior, potent, and God-like figure. He kills his own senior Yao Ya-cih to prove to her that he become the most relevant individual she knows.
When Ya-cih dies, He-ping becomes famous. His popularity and acceptance are growing as a result of his book and his recovery after being shot by Kuo. People’s fear of the killer shows in their eyes, which boosts his narcissistic personality. That’s when Kuo comes on his show as a guest. The prosecutor arranges for a man to call the programme and claims to be the serial killer since it will hurt the reporter. He-ping goes crazy when the caller says he is the real serial killer. The reporter starts to feel scared because the caller is trying to take away the power he has over his community.
As a narcissist, He-ping needs to stay the serial killer to keep his sense of superiority and power. When a random caller says he wants to become a serial killer, he worries that people will start to fear the killer instead of him. He doesn’t want to be a forgotten star yet, so he says on live TV that he is the real serial killer. In a state of insanity, he tells how he used Jia-wun to kill the people so that no one would believe the fake caller. He-ping doesn’t know that he is confessing to the crimes when he says that he is the real killer. He doesn’t even care that he’s being arrested, because his secret still makes people afraid of him.
Is He-ping Dead? Who Kills Him?
After being caught, He-ping is given a life sentence in prison. After leaving court, he stands in front of reporters to be on TV, but someone sneaks into the crowd and stabs him, killing him. Anyone could have killed He-ping. The most likely person is someone from the family of one of his victims. At least four women have been killed by He-ping, and a relative of one of them could be the anonymous killer. If not, it could be a vigilante who wants to bring order back to the area.
He-ping has gotten a lot of people to give up on law and order and embrace chaos. Even when he is tried for the murders, the group says he hasn’t done anything wrong and wants him set free. A number of bad people use He-mask ping’s to do bad things. If the person who killed him was a vigilante, that person might want him to stop being an example for people who try to be like him. If the killer isn’t a vigilante, they might be another self-centered person who wants to be in the spotlight. Since He-ping is the talk of the town, the person may want to put him out of mind so that he can take He-place ping’s as the most talked-about person.
