Bonnie Bailey Obituary, Death – As a result of the premature demise of Dr. Bonnie Bailey, the town of Jefferson City, Missouri is demanding that Dr. John Moseley, the President of Lincoln University, be suspended immediately. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey on January 8th. According to official sources inside the family, Dr. Bailey took her own life as a result of the emotional distress she experienced as a result of “bullying and severe mistreatment” in her position as Vice President of Student Affairs at Lincoln University Missouri.
President Sherman Bonds of Lincoln University contacted President Victor Pasley of the Lincoln University Board of Curators in a statement that was published via the Lincoln University National Alumni Association. The letter stated that President Pasley had received “repeated calls and emails expressing dire concern for the health of the university.”
We find myself standing in a state of hopelessness.” In light of this, I would like to make a request to you and the Board of Curators to find a solution that will bring about a sense of healing and harmony. As the President of the Lincoln University (National) Alumni Association, I feel forced to demand that there be a change in the individual who holds the position of President of the University, and that this change take place immediately. Three days after Dr. Bailey’s passing, Lincoln University issued an official statement to the surrounding community. The following is what the university wrote in a post on Facebook:
The Lincoln University community is mourning the loss of beloved alumna and leader Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey.” Earlier this week, Dr. Bailey unfortunately died away. She was an exceptionally talented colleague who was always a fervent advocate for Lincoln University, historically black colleges and universities, and other causes in which she believed. From January 2022 to the present day, Dr. John B. Moseley has been serving as the 21st president of Lincoln University. Before then, Dr. Moseley served as the Head Basketball Coach for LU before joining leadership as the Director of Athletics in 2015.
Sources state that Dr. Bailey was left “unsupported, disregarded, and abused after countless attempts to speak out on the bullying and harassment she experienced in her role from President Moseley.” Dr. Bailey also reportedly discussed in a letter before her passing, the “stigmatized bullying she faced from the President and other leadership officials,” after disclosing her mental illness to the university.
